🌍 Proven Models for Sustainable Development

🏥 1. TB-Free Palika: A Municipal Model Goes National

On 22nd Chaitra 2075 (5th April 2019), BWSN, in collaboration with Harion Municipality, launched the TB-Free Palika initiative — a bold, community-based approach to eliminate tuberculosis at the local level.

Over the following two years, the program demonstrated remarkable success in identifying and enrolling TB patients into treatment, raising community awareness, and reducing stigma associated with the disease.

This localized success attracted national attention. The Government of Nepal officially adopted the model and expanded it to 25 local governments across the country. Advocacy efforts continue to promote replication, with the goal of nationwide TB elimination.

💧 2. Haripur WSSM Model: A Sustainable Water Governance Framework

In Haripur, BWSN pioneered an innovative and sustainable approach to water governance through the Haripur Water Supply and Sanitation Management (WSSM) Model.

Unlike conventional single-scheme approaches, this model operates under a unified umbrella structure that integrates:

  • A dedicated executive committee
  • A technically competent operational unit
  • A strong legal and regulatory framework
  • An autonomous and accountable WSSM Board

This governance structure ensures long-term sustainability, transparency, and effective service delivery. Currently in its advanced implementation phase, the model has emerged as a best-practice example for rural water systems.

It offers a scalable and replicable roadmap for municipalities seeking to strengthen water governance and achieve universal access to safe drinking water.
