From Hate to Love: Shibam\'s Journey

In our community of Parsa RM, ward 04 in Sarlahi district, we have witnessed a remarkable transformation in a young boy named Shibam Kumar Yadav. At just 8 years old, Shibam is a bright student in Early Child Development. He lives with his mother, father, and brother, and they face daily challenges as his father works hard for a meager wage to support the family.

Shibam was born with a physical disability, which led his family to seek treatment at various hospitals, but unfortunately, none were successful. This left Shibam vulnerable to social criticism and harsh remarks from others. However, his family stood by him through it all, providing the love and support he needed.

Everything began to change when Shibam enrolled in the Child Protection and Community Engagement Sponsorship Program (P-CESP) operated by Bagmati Welfare Society Nepal. This program not only uplifted Shibam but also brought a smile to his mother’s face. Despite the challenges posed by some community members, the encouragement from the project workers empowered Shibam to rise above the negativity.

We remember the day when Shibam shared his excitement about making a friend in the UK who began writing letters to him. He eagerly responded, sending back drawings that showcased his creativity. This friendship has sparked joy in him and strengthened his connection to the world beyond our community.

Since joining the project, Shibam and his family have become active participants in various activities, including CEW events, drawing competitions, and health camps. The support they received has been invaluable, providing Shibam with school supplies like a bag, colors, pencils, and even essential physical aids.

Before the program, Shibam was shy and hesitant to speak to anyone outside his family. Now, he confidently engages with us, and we all take pride in his growth. His family is committed to fostering his education, realizing the potential he holds.

Shibam’s positive transformation has inspired many of us in the community. We have seen a shift in attitudes, and more people are now eager to participate in the program. His mother often tells us, "Not only has my son benefited, but we have all gained from the project’s activities. The Positive Parenting orientations have changed how parents treat their children. The mistreatment my son once faced is no longer tolerated. Now, we all embrace him with love and respect."

Shibam’s journey from hate to love is a powerful reminder of resilience and the impact of community support. His story inspires hope and shows how love and acceptance can transform lives, not just for individuals but for our entire community.
