Empowering Futures: A Mother\'s Commitment to Child Education and Struggle Against Child Marriage

My name is Sita Devi (Name Changed). Recently, my family discussed the possibility of marrying my daughter, who is still in school. However, deep down, I wanted her to complete her education first.
After attending a session conducted by Bagmati Welfare Society Nepal, I realized the importance of prioritizing my daughter's studies. I am now committed to ensuring that she marries only after completing her education and that she has the freedom to pursue her studies as long as she wishes.
Joining the mother group opened my eyes to the status of adolescents. It was my first experience participating in such sessions, and it sparked a realization within me: if daughters are given the same opportunities as sons, they can excel, often surpassing them.
Had I not participated in these sessions, I might have succumbed to societal pressures and agreed to marry my daughter off at a young age. Instead, I now understand the significance of supporting her education. We have learned about the physical, mental, and emotional changes adolescents experience, and the vital role we play in securing their future.
Going forward, we are committed to allowing our children to marry at the appropriate age, keeping their well-being and education as our top priority.
