Confidence Gained Through Capacity Building

"Training infuses new knowledge. I am now involved in tasks I've never undertaken before. This opportunity is crucial. The confidence nurtured by this training will unlock many more service prospects for my future," states Ram Kumari Chaudhary, an ANM (Auxiliary Nurse Midwife) at Ramapur Health Post in Belaka Municipality, Udayapur district. Before her training, Ram Kumari was notably deficient in basic equipment and resources essential for conducting vital health assessments. With 10 years of service in Doti and 6 years in Siraha, Anamika's training has not only imparted knowledge and skills but has also amplified her professional self-assurance.

In a previous instance, Anamika underwent VIA checkup training at Koshi Hospital. This assessment aims to evaluate the potential link between uterine prolapse and cancer, a condition that can escalate over time. Following the training, she returned and conducted health evaluations for 25 women at the municipal hospital. This process unveiled a positive case. As per the hospital's recommendation, she directed the patient to B.P. Koirala Institute of Health Sciences, Dharan, Sunsari, for further treatment. Ram Kumari affirms that her training furnished her not only with the capacity to diagnose ailments but also with the resources to effectively handle referrals.

Ram Kumari further noted that now the data is incorporated into the information system of the Government of Nepal. This endeavor is geared towards streamlining the healthcare information system.

She believes that community awareness initiatives and the system for case referrals have substantially aided patients. In the past, due to the dearth of human resources in local establishments, concerns related to uterine problems remained unaddressed. Now, a distinctive scenario and environment have been cultivated.

In various health institutions throughout the district, health camps are orchestrated where trained personnel are harnessed. This empowers local personnel to perform health assessments. In this year alone, numerous women underwent health evaluations at the Pokhare Primary Health Service Center in Ward No. 5 of Belaka Municipality, Hatipur Primary Health Service Center in Ward No. 8, and Ambase Sahari Health Center in Ward No. 1. Health camps were also executed at Bhagalpur Primary Health Service Center and Belaka Municipal Hospital.

The information about health evaluations conducted in municipal hospitals and town centers now reaches the local populace. These camps encompass solutions and methodologies for tackling issues such as uterine prolapse. They encompass screenings, treatments, and referrals for uterine cancer. Keeping in view the urgency and requirement for women's health, the municipal hospital has included this domain in its programs. The hospital has procured the necessary materials, including vaginal pessaries, essential for addressing uterine problems.
