Finding Joy in Helping Others
Timely training and the development of health workers' capacities hold immense importance. This training and capacity-building work have not only heightened the effectiveness of services but have also led to an enhancement in community health. As a result, selfconfidence has flourished among health workers, eradicating instances of patients leaving without receiving proper check-ups. Senior ANM Sumitra Gurmchhan, serving in Ward No. 16 of Lalbandi Municipality in Sarlahi District, attests to this positive change. Particularly, services concerning women's health have showcased remarkable efficacy, solidifying the crucial role of health workers within health institutions.
Sumitra Gurmchhan is a seasoned health worker at this health post, with two decades of experience in the field of healthcare services. Personal capacity growth through training has substantially elevated her service delivery quality. The availability of essential training and required equipment within the health institution significantly contributes to the efficient delivery of health services. She acknowledges that the equipment and training offered by BWSN in collaboration with ADRA Nepal under the WHaSS project have greatly benefited her and her fellow colleagues.
Despite her years of service at the health institution, the recent training has brought a noticeable enhancement to their work efficiency. Furthermore, the health institution now provides impactful services in the domain of women's health. Critical examinations like cancer screenings and the identification of maternityrelated concerns are seamlessly conducted by the health institution, with readily accessible referral services.
Sumitra remarks, "The issue of uterine prolapse has gained prominence within the community. Due to women in rural areas concealing this problem, it's possible that the scale of this issue is even larger than perceived." She emphasizes the significance of timely training and the acquisition of proper healthcare skills. Health workers have emerged more self-assured, ensuring that patients no longer depart without undergoing health check-ups. Sumitra radiates her newfound confidence in this manner.
Currently, the insertion of a vaginal pessary for women suffering from uterine prolapse at the health post incurs no charges. The municipality has allocated a dedicated budget for this purpose. Furthermore, the health institution is equipped for conducting cancer screenings within the maternity ward. Even in rural regions, the health institution has successfully facilitated 78 deliveries in the current year. This achievement reflects the elevated level of trust that the local populace has vested in the health institution.
