Seizing Opportunities Through Health Camp

The Chandiya Municipal Hospital is located near Gaur, the district headquarters of Rautahat. Although this hospital in Ward No. 3 of Rajdevi Municipality has its limitations, the local community is gradually becoming more aware. A women's health camp, organized in the municipal hospital on 19–20 October 2022, has played a pivotal role in sensitizing local communities to matters concerning maternal health and other reproductive well-being.

Roshankumar Das, an Auxiliary Health Worker (AHW) at Chandiya Municipal Hospital, explains that the health camp's influence has significantly heightened awareness about women's health and reproductive concerns within the community. Health workers at the hospital report an increased number of women seeking assistance for such issues. Notably, despite the community's relatively modest size, the health camp facilitated check-ups for over three hundred women. The camp featured a dedicated team from Janakpur Regional Hospital, delivering specialized services.

Although only seven kilometers away from the district headquarters in Gaur, this community was grappling with diverse health challenges. Skill development initiatives for health workers at the hospital have substantially mitigated these challenges. Previously, patients had to travel to Janakpur or Birgunj for complex medical examinations. However, local hospital staff now affirm that these obstacles have considerably diminished. The women's health camp encompassed a range of services, including cancer screenings. Notably, five women who underwent uterine check-ups during the camp subsequently received surgical treatment, resulting in significant relief.

Nilam Das, a staff nurse at Chandiya Municipal Hospital, observes a reduction in the stigma associated with women's health issues. This transformation is reflected in the increasing monthly visits of patients to the health institution. Khushbu Singh, another health worker at the hospital in Chandiya of Rautahat district, confirms, "The health camp's impact is evident as women with uterine prolapse concerns now seek treatment at the hospital. The heightened awareness fostered by the camp has deepened interest and concern for women's health throughout the community." This statement underscores the far-reaching influence of the services offered by the health institution.
