Empowerment of an Adolescent Girl

I am Manisha Kumari Yadav, a 19-year-old resident of Haripurwa-1. My aspiration to study nursing and serve people, but I couldn't pursue it due to our poor economic circumstances. However, after completing the Secondary Education Examination (SEE), I enrolled in grade-12 at Keshor Garib Secondary School in my local area.

In the past, I was easily frightened and hesitant to speak in front of others, both inside and outside the classroom. However, my life took a positive turn  when I joined the Rupantaran Life Skill and Self-Defense Training of Trainers (ToT) program. This training equipped me with essential life skills and self-defense techniques, transforming me into a more well-rounded individual. Now, my life's purpose is to serve society.

During the training, I learned how to respond to violence, manage expenses, save money, and address the multiple disadvantages of child marriage and drug use disorders. Additionally, I gained knowledge about menstruation hygiene management and participated in street dramas. Today, my life has undergone a remarkable transformation. I actively engage in various cultural programs, seminars, and trainings within my community. I confidently conduct orientations and trainings, and as part of my Rupantaran and Child Club (CC) team, I perform street dramas. I have earned the respect of community members, and my colleagues trust and seek my suggestions. I also provide support and guidance to colleagues facing gender-based discrimination, understanding their situations and offering appropriate advice. My parents are proud of me, and I contribute financially to support them. I owe my gratitude to my supporters for their invaluable contributions to shaping me into the person I am today.
