Increase in Patient Visit to Health Centers

Muna Thapa holds the position of Senior Auxiliary Nurse Midwife (ANM) at Singiya Health Post in Ward No. 3 of Ramdhuni Rural Municipality in Sunsari. After undergoing training in uterine cancer screenings, Muna's professional skills have expanded, contributing to a distinctive enhancement in health service delivery at the institution after staff training.

Since the initiation of women's health-related check-ups and treatments at health institutions, there has been a notable increase in the frequency of patient consultations. Even women from the Muslim community have begun to embrace visits to health institutions, signifying a shift from traditional beliefs. The health post now hosts women's health check-up sessions every Tuesday, typically drawing in 5 to 7 attendees. The health institution administers vaginal pessary insertions and conducts examinations of uterine conditions.

This institution serves as a hub for women grappling with uterine prolapse. The practice of effective Kegel exercises, proven beneficial for uterine prolapse patients, is diligently carried out here. These exercises can regress a second-degree uterine prolapse to a first-degree condition and further restore a first-degree prolapse to a normal uterine state. To address women's health, comprehensive camps were conducted across all wards of Ramdhuni, successfully providing health check-ups to approximately 1,300 women.

Through these examinations, instances of fourth-degree prolapse were also detected during the camp. The camps have substantially elevated awareness surrounding uterine prolapse. Muna explains, "These camps have played a pivotal role in disseminating awareness within the community regarding uterine prolapse and its associated risks. The community now recognizes the importance of not concealing uterine prolapse but rather seeking immediate check-ups and treatments from health institutions. This knowledge was not widely prevalent before. Additionally, there has been a marked increase in the number of patients seeking health institution services."

Muna further emphasizes, "Health institutions are integral components of the community. The efficacy of health service delivery has significantly improved since the community began actively engaging with health institutions. We now have more opportunities to offer our services. Patients who frequent the health post have consistently received satisfactory care. These programs have not only heightened awareness about personal hygiene and health but also imparted knowledge about local dietary practices, nutritional considerations, family planning, and safe motherhood."
