Unveiling Devaki Story

Devaki, now 45 years old, has finally found relief from a long-standing problem that had plagued her for years. On 15 May 2023, at the age of forty-five, she was liberated from her ordeal. Her residence is situated in Ramdhuni Municipality, within Sunsari district. In her estimation, numerous women within the village community have fallen victim to this ailment. Initially, she concealed her condition from everyone for several years. However, last year marked a turning point as Devaki underwent surgery at Janakpur Provincial Hospital which was financially supported by WHaSS project. Since then, her health has considerably improved. Despite enduring a 15-day wait for the doctor during her hospital stay, she did not incur any financial burden. She also noted that her scheduled turn for surgery was temporarily delayed due to a childbirth case.

For nearly 19 years, Devaki relied on a vaginal pessary to manage her uterine prolapse issue. The discomfort initially surfaced during her first pregnancy and persisted throughout subsequent pregnancies, progressively worsening over time. Devaki, mother to two sons and a daughter, ardently wished to overcome this affliction. However, driven by shame and embarrassment, she concealed her ailment.

During pregnancy, comfort remained elusive as she tirelessly juggled household chores, such as gathering forest resources, firewood, water, and other physically demanding tasks. The burdensome workload exacerbated her health predicament. Guided by Sita Chaudhary, a dedicated local women's health volunteer, Devaki sought refuge at the health center. It was during this juncture that she crossed paths with Hemakala Bhandari, a rural health worker. Their interaction encompassed a thorough discussion on ailment identification, treatment approaches, and comprehensive consultation. Subsequently, the groundwork for her surgery was initiated.

Upon learning that the surgical intervention came at no expense, Devaki readily embraced the prospect of undergoing the operation. She holds a deep sense of appreciation for the guidance and services rendered by the institution during the surgical procedure. Presently, she experiences a significant improvement in her mobility and daily life. In her own words, she jubilantly declares, "These days, I feel as if I've been granted a new lease on life." For regular health check-ups, she now frequents the nearby Bhasi Health Post.
