Dont Conceal the Issue

Bishnu's residence is in a village within Chaudandigadhi Municipality, Udayapur district. For some time, Bishnu had been grappling with health concerns, seeking healthcare services at the local municipality hospital in Beltar after encountering complications with a vaginal pessary, which was inserted to address uterine prolapse.

A house visit by Kirti Rai, a rural health services provider associated with ADRA Nepal and BWSN, served as a convenient platform for Bishnu's consultation. Even at the municipal hospital, Kirti was the one who undertook the placement of the pessary for her. Bishnu commends the institution's support in furnishing counseling, overseeing her case, and delivering healthcare services. She shares, "She informed me about uterine prolapse and its potential implications during her home visit. She even conducted the pessary placement. She stays updated about my well-being and occasionally contacts me."

The issue of elephantiasis had persisted, and Vishnu recognized a visible concern with swelling in his leg. This year, he sought medical assistance from the local health post and the municipal hospital.

Guided by the assistance of ADRA Nepal and BWSN's Roving Service provider, Kirti Rai, Vishnu embraced a seamless consultation process. Even at the municipal hospital, Kirti Rai closely monitored his case. Offering consultations within the comfort of his home, she monitored his condition and facilitated his hospital visits, all under the auspices of her organization. Vishnu expressed, "They educated me about the birthing center issue and its potential complications during their homevisit. Additionally, they meticulously followed my case at the hospital. Regular communication is also maintained."

Bishnu emphasized that the project's service has extended invaluable support to her. Addressing the topic of uterine prolapse initially evoked a sense of shame. This apprehension prompted her to conceal the problem for many years, which ultimately made her daily life challenging. However, following the vaginal pessary placement, her daily routine has markedly improved.

In Udayapur's villages, akin to elsewhere, women shoulder the responsibilities of household tasks. Engaged in activities such as farming, gathering firewood, cutting grass, and more, they bear the weight of unceasing work. Countless women are engrossed in labor from dawn till dusk. According to Vishnu's estimation, a multitude of women in her village grapple with analogous health predicaments. She imparts advice, "Don't suppress the issues you face. Concealing them could lead to greater complexities down the line." She recommends that despite the demands of domestic chores, women shouldn't mask their health challenges. She thanked to supporting agencies and the WHaSS project for the positive changes.

Kirti Rai, the rural health services provider in Udayapur, emphasizes the significance of Bishnu's newfound awareness and transformation. Kirti remarks, "Numerous women appear to be concealing this concern. In our consultative work, women actively seek health services at the facility. Observing the transformative impact initiated by Bishnu didi, I find gratification in my work."
