Effective Learning Lab

The Learning Labs initiated by the Ministry of Health in the province have proven to be highly effective in managing medications, health equipment, and other essential aspects within health institutions through online means. With support from UNFPA, partner organizations ADRA Nepal and BWSN have launched this program aimed at enhancing the managerial capacity of health institutions in the Madhesh Province.

The Learning Labs established in Janakpur, the seat of the Provincial Headquarters, and in Malangawa of Sarlahi, the seat of the Health Office, to make eLMIS practical and accessible, have demonstrated their effectiveness.

For employees at the municipal level, Learning Labs serve as continuous sources of knowledge acquisition, both online and through other mediums, catering to the essential needs of their roles. These learning labs ensure that staff members find necessary guidance for every issue they encounter while using the eLMIS software.

Initiated in 2020, the Learning Labs have brought significant improvements to the management of health institutions in numerous municipalities. The skills acquired during the training are being actively implemented. The utilization of this software has considerably enhanced the management capabilities of health units within municipalities compared to before. The impact extends beyond municipalities and also influences local health institutions.

Since its initiation in 2020, this program has exhibited

a steady growth rate within municipalities and health institutions. With computer facilities established at the municipal level and regular internet access, the project envisioned providing training, starting from the basics and with practical exposure. Around 200 health institutions within Madhesh Province have received education and practical knowledge on this matter in alignment with this vision. This training serves as a foundation for municipalities to initiate their operations.

Ramchandra Rai from Sarlahi states, “Thanks to the Learning Labs, we have gained the ability to understand and address issues that arise. Understanding information technology is crucial to effectively use the software. Whenever a problem arises, we can find solutions promptly.”

Pooja Thakur, who works at the Learning Lab in Janakpur, affirms that the learning lab has facilitated smoother and more effective health management capacity for municipalities. Our efforts involve using software in municipalities to provide essential knowledge, skills, and technical solutions. While working with paper documents often took longer, the initial use of online means presented challenges. However, municipalities have gradually become technology-friendly.

This approach has made management transparent and evident in practice, as noted by Naval Yadav, the Public Health Inspector of Haripur Rural Municipality. The Learning Lab courses have evolved into centers for practical learning.
